Spiritual Themes

Spiritual Theme 2017:

Teach me, Lord! Teach me to have a quiet and gracious spirit.

Spiritual Theme 2016:

Jesus, You are My Shalom! You do it ALL! My quiet rest, completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety, soundness (of body & soul), tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, harmony – in You is absence of agitation & discord. You are my friend!

Spiritual Theme 2015:

“Jesus, make me aware of You!” Help me to remember the meaning of Your name – “The Lord Saves.”

Spiritual Theme 2014:

“Be Still…and know (the will of God).” – Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. (St. Francis of Assisi)

  • As the year proceeded God led me to this verse: Isaiah 30:21 “your Teacher will not hide Himself any longer. Your eyes will see your Teacher, and whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.” And then I did TWO peacemaking studies, one in Women’s Bible Study (Tara Barthel’s Living the Gospel in Relationships) and one in our Home Group (Peacemakers by Ken Sande).

Spiritual Theme 2013:

The adventure of my daily life is learning how to listen to the Holy Spirit in order to join in what God is already doing.  In August 2013 I felt God saying “Spend yourself for Me.”

  • This discovery that I don’t need to find “God’s will for me” but just discover God’s Will period was very freeing.  He has a plan, I just need to get on board with it. I can find His Will in His Word then I can freely spend myself on things that really matter.

Spiritual Theme 2012:

We have not because we ask not!  “If God only did that in my life which I asked Him to do, how much would He do?  And how much more might I receive from His hand if only I prayed more?!”

  • Oh, the power of prayer.  How little we pray.  My heart – for years now – has been to get my church to pray corporately. I long for this like a woman in a dry and thirsty land.

Spiritual Theme 2011:

Started with “Humility” but was further refined to “More of Him, Less of Me” – God is also working with me on hearing His Voice and listening to the Holy Spirit as He speaks to me throughout the day. “Trust more Fully and Obey more Quickly” was a theme that popped up in September 2011.

Spiritual Theme 2010:

Deny Thy Self, Strengthen What Remains, Burn the Fat (this started in 2009)

  • Introduced fasting into my spiritual disciplines – what a learning experience that was.  I never realized how much my life centers around food and my physical desires.

Secular Theme began:  Use it Up, Wear it Out, Make it Do, Do Without!

Mark 12:32 – Love the Lord Your God with all your heart, soul, mind and might and love your neighbor as yourself (found the focus to be on Loving Others)
