I can’t put it off any longer. I was going to wait and join a bunch of ladies doing the Whole30 starting on January 1, 2015 (Whole 30 – New Year’s Challenge Facebook Group). I cannot wait until then. I gained 10 pounds over Thanksgiving and Christmas. Getting ready for the Whole30 by reading the book It Starts With Food totally convicted me that most of my health issues are due to my diet…and it needs to change RIGHT NOW! The simple way they explain the science behind the eating plan blew me away. I have most of the symptoms they list that are caused by the wrong kind of diet: fibromyalgia, chronic inflammation, sleep troubles, digestive troubles, hives, allergies, etc. etc.
The Whole30 Challenge is part of an overall focus on body and soul for Women’s Ministry in 2015. For years now I have been looking for Health/Diet Bible Study or Guide to bring to my Women’s Bible Study on Friday mornings. I’ve read study after study (using a lot of quotes in my Diet Devos written in 2013) but never felt like I found just the right one until this year. When I read Elyse Fitzpatrick’s Love to Eat, Hate to Eat – Breaking the Bondage of Destructive Eating Habits I thought, “This is it!”
So this winter 2015 we are stepping outside of our Bible Study Box and for five weeks we are concentrating on “Strengthening Body & Soul and Glorifying God in Our Bodies.” Our key verse for the series is 1 Corinthians 6:20b “…glorify God in your body.” At church we tend to focus exclusively on feeding our souls. I hope to correct this imbalance at Women’s Study this winter. Our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit and we must glorify God IN OUR BODY. You have to have a body to live in! Why not learn what God says about taking care of it.
I have seen the Holy Spirit bring this whole endeavor together. At the same time I was feeling the pull to do this study, God laid it on *Kathy Nobles heart to start a Praise and Worship Exercise Class. So on Monday, January 5, 2015 the Daily Workout will begin. God also laid it on Cindy Davis’ heart to start a Run for God study. On February 24, 2015 – Run for God (go from Couch Potato to 5K) study will begin at Country Oaks Baptist Church in The Grove. “Run for God – The 5K Challenge” is a 12-week training plan aimed at running a 5K while maintaining a Christian focus. The goal is to go from Couch Potato to participating in Tehachapi’s “Run with the Wind” 5K on May 30, 2015.
So why am I leading this crazy study and going on the Whole30? 1 Corinthians 9:27 tells why:
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
I have to practice what I preach and set a good example…and I sure would like to be healthier so I can serve God with more energy and vitality.
